Having Trouble Making Your Dog Eat? Some Ideas

July 17, 2018

Giving your pet rescue dogs bc high-quality dog food for the nutrition it requires is crucial for ensuring proper growth and health. However, there are times when you might have trouble making your dog eat dog food. Loss of appetite can be the result of certain illnesses or due to some other reason. Of course, there are ways you can make your pet eat dog food. Indy is such a dainty eater, oftentimes refusing to eat some brands of dog food that is served to him. I have had a tough time settling on a brand that he enjoys and is consistent for him and ensures he poops appropriately. We settled on raw food. He won’t eat dry kibble and doesn’t process it well.

Sometimes it’s all about a matter of convincing your pet to take a bite. Tempt your dog with some delicious food they can’t resist. Some favorite food items for dogs include peanut butter, boiled chicken, blocks of cheese, etc. However, you need to ensure that you don’t give them too much. Placing a bit of their favorite food item on the dog food already in the pet’s bowl can make them start eating dog food again. This works very well with Indy when I add low sodium beef broth to his dishes which tempts him with the salty goodness and he goes through his entire bowl shortly after.

Warming up Canadian dog breeds food may stimulate your rescue dogs bc to eat the food. This is because warm food releases odoriferous compounds that are tempting for pets. Just take note that you don’t overheat the dog food.

Sometimes a lack of attention might be causing your dog not to eat. In such a case, you should go and stand near the dog bowl. Doing so can be seen as an invitation to your dog to eat the food and tell him or her that you’ll be near them while they eat.

Set a time for your pet’s meals. Don’t give them an extra treat for munching. A lot of times dogs stop eating dogs for adoption bc food because they want treats instead. Also, not having a fixed eating schedule messes with their appetite.

Also, if you’re changing the kind of dog food for your pet, combine old food with the new food and then gradually decrease the amount of old food. This will make your pet grow familiar with the new food, helping them avoid hunger strikes due to change in food.

Furthermore, you should also take your dog to a vet if the refusal to eat food continues. A lot of times, the reason for not eating food is related to a medical condition.
