How My Cat Saves Me From Quarantine Despair (blog with pics)
Most of you are unaware that I actually live at my warehouse where we print apparel. I live here simply because I can't afford rent at my own place and pay for this space we need to work from. It's a bit colder here than a normal home, but it's fine. My beloved senior cat, Kittney, who is now about 14-15 years old is with me here too. I've had him since he was 3. I adopted him back when I lived in Alberta.
Living at work means that I am still able to work and function and occupy my time with productive tasks during quarantine. However, like most others I'm sure, there are days of self-isolation where my mind is scattered, worried for my loved ones and filled with uneasy thoughts of the future.
On the days that I'm not up for work related tasks simply because it's hard to focus on them, I turn to Kittney.
Let me show you his daily routine.
1 - He wakes me up between 7:30-8:30 am DEMANDING his foodz. He sleeps with me every night in the nook (in my armpit/face area) and when I rollover he comes to the other side of the bed automatically. He is one of those cats where you will fall asleep and wake up and he is still in the same position with you hours later. Great nap buddy.
2 - After his breakfast he immediately does his morning poopo and then bolts the length of the main floor to the front window. I've always wondered why. I guess to run away from the smell? It's just a sure thing, he poops then sprints. He's a slow, old cat, but he runs as fast as he can.
3 - If it's sunny, he will bask in the sunlight on the front couch or in the window sill for a few hours and watch the now sparse traffic go by downtown Victoria BC.
4 - Then when he gets hungy again he will make his way downstairs to where Siobhan and I are working and start asking for meal 2.
5 - He will then take nap # 3 of the day in the spot in the kitchen or on his cat nip fish shaped tray, those are his 2 spots. He likes the kitchen the best because the UPS guy comes by the back door and he gets pets.
6 - Back when we used to get daily walk in visitors, he would claim the front chair and greet everyone. When I would meet with customers to discuss their orders, he would come and sit on their lap, whether they like it or not.
7 - Comes to help us work or demand food at the basement staircase. Then nap # 4.
8 - Once the work day is over and he's looking for meal # 3 he will let me know by aggressively pawing or starting at my face from the table.
9 - At night I try and go for a drive now just to get out of the warehouse and clear my head, when I come back he's always happy to see me and looking for meal # 4.
10 - Bed time comes and he's ready to do a sleep in his favorite position in the nook.
I'm so grateful to have kittney in my life.
